Third GNSS-PRO Workshop in November 2025 - Registration now open

My apologies - now with hopefully correct links. ________________________________ Dear all, The “3rd GNSS Polarimetric Radio Occultations Workshop” will take place 10-12 November 2025, at the EUMETSAT headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. Registration is now available at the workshop main page: https://www.eventsforce.net/gnsspro2025 This third workshop follows on to the “2nd GNSS Polarimetric Radio Occultation workshop<https://doi.org/10.1175/BAMS-D-24-0050.1>” from 2023. It represents a forum for addressing multiple uses and applications that have been studied in the seven years that polarimetric RO (PRO) data have been available, align the presentation of these results, and prepare recommendations for meteorological, space and research organizations (e.g., CGMS agencies, the EUMETSAT ROM SAF) and satellite data providers. The workshop will feature presentations and discussions in the following areas: * Status of current and future polarimetric-capable RO observations * Precipitation, convection, extreme precipitation events * Use of PRO to evaluate model microphysical parameterization schemes * NWP and climate model evaluation * Assimilation of PRO observations * Simulations and comparisons between PRO and passive MW radiances * Recommendations to space agencies and data providers * ROM SAF consultation process While the workshop will offer a hybrid attendance format, in-person attendance is encouraged. If you would like to present materials at the workshop, you can enter (even a tentative) title at the time of registration. An abstract is not required. Conference Name: 22nd Symposium on Operational Environmental Satellite Systems (joint between 16th Conference on Transition of Research to Operations) Session Name: Atmospheric Science Applications of Global Navigation Satellite Systems Technology Across Scales Session Description: Remote sensing observations that utilize Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals have been used in geophysical research for decades. GNSS signals are particularly useful for various forms of geophysical research due to its high precision and capability to penetrate clouds and precipitation. GNSS observation techniques such as radio occultation (GNSS-RO) and reflections (GNSS-R) provide high-quality, globally distributed atmospheric retrievals useful in a wide variety of research. Their retrievals also greatly contribute to numerical simulation systems through data assimilation for accurate climate analysis and weather forecasts. This session welcomes submissions including, but not limited to the following topics: 1. Complementary observations of GNSS and other remote sensing or in-situ data for understanding atmospheric processes across scales, 2. Impacts and effects of GNSS observations on numerical weather prediction of significant weather events and data assimilation strategies for GNSS observations, 3. GNSS observations of high-impact weather, such as tropical cyclones, fire weather, atmospheric rivers, and their implications for understanding extreme events, and 4. Session Name: A013 – Advancing Earth System Science Research using Global Navigation Satellite Systems Technology Session Description: Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals have been used in geophysical research for decades due to its reliable signal sources, high precision, and capability to penetrate clouds and precipitation. As such, the expansion of commercial and government back-bone GNSS observations such as radio occultations (GNSS-RO), GNSS reflections (GNSS-R), and the expanding network of ground stations have received significant investment in past years. These various GNSS observation techniques provide high-quality globally distributed atmospheric, ionospheric, and surface retrievals useful in a wide variety of research. Other new GNSS instrumentation concepts such as polarimetric RO (PRO), LEO-LEO multi-frequency occultations, and grazing reflections can also contribute greatly to GNSS remote sensing. This session welcomes submissions including, but not limited to the following topics: 1. Utilization of GNSS remote sensing technology to improve understanding of atmospheric processes, including the planetary boundary layer and extreme weather, 2. Novel atmospheric/surface science applications, such as hydrology, altimetry, or natural hazards, as a result of GNSS remote sensing observations, 3. Dear IROWG and ROMEX participants, I’m pleased to announce that the *Atmospheric Measurement Techniques (AMT)* special issue titled *“The Radio Occultation Modeling EXperiment (ROMEX): observational quality, processing, and numerical weather prediction (NWP) applications”* is now open for submissions. ROMEX <https://irowg.org/ro-modeling-experiment-romex/>, an IROWG-led initiative, aims to assess the impact of ~35,000 daily radio occultation (RO) profiles—collected from 13 missions during September–November 2022—on numerical weather prediction. This international campaign involves contributions from data providers, processing centers, and forecasting institutions across the global research and operational communities. The special issue welcomes papers using ROMEX data on topics including, but not limited to: - RO data quality and processing - Evaluation and validation of RO datasets - Impact studies in NWP and other atmospheric applications *Submission is open from 1 May 2025 to 31 December 2026* (extensions possible). Sentinel-6 Galileo BUFR products release on GTS

Dear NWP centers: Sentinel-6 recently made a flight software update to enable tracking occultations of Galileo satellites. Starting Tuesday, May 13, 2025, the BUFR products of Galileo occultations processed in near-real-time will be released on GTS on or around 16:00 UTC, depending on the timing of the telemetry downlinks. Please let us know if you have any questions or encounter any issues with the new Galileo data.
