Refined schedule for the Sentinel-6A RO instrument update and BUFR outages on GTS

Dear NWP centers: To update our previous email regarding the instrument software update to Sentinel-6 A (Michael Freilich), the upload will begin around 08:30 UTC on January 30, 2025 and end around 11:30 UTC on February 5, 2025. Note that the end may be extended if needed. While we are anticipating very brief outages once per day of up to 30 minutes, please be advised that there could be longer outages if, e.g., quality issues manifest. After the software upload is completed, the Sentinel-6 A BUFR products will not be distributed on GTS for 7-10 days. After this brief checkout period to confirm there is no impact to product performance, the GPS and GLONASS BUFR products will be back online while the performance of the Galileo products continues to be assessed. A separate announcement will follow when the GPS and GLONASS BUFR products are back online and another when the Galileo BUFR products become available on GTS. Upcoming Sentinel-6A RO instrument update

Dear NWP centers: We would like to inform you that a major software update to Sentinel-6 A (aka S6MF) is being planned to occur no earlier than January 27, 2025 to enable the tracking of Galileo radio occultation. During the upload period (which is expected to last several days) there could be instrument outages impacting the number of BUFR products distributed on the GTS. We expect little or no impact on GPS and GLONASS RO from this update. Therefore, we plan to begin releasing these data operationally to the GTS after a 7-10 day checkout period following the upload has completed. Another announcement will follow when the GPS and GLONASS BUFR products are being distributed operationally on GTS. The Galileo RO data will be processed and be made available offline separately for a more extensive evaluation by NWP centers before their operational release. Reminder: IROWG ROMEX Workshop-2 registration

Dear IROWG/ROMEX community, This is a friendly reminder that registration opens now for the second IROWG ROMEX (ROMEX-2) Workshop, which will take place from February 25 to 27, 2025, at EUMETSAT Headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. All ROMEX participants are strongly encouraged to present results, no matter what stages they are at this point. *Please register at the IROWG ROMEX workshop webpage*: https://www.eventsforce.net/eumetsat/frontend/reg/thome.csp?pageID=26230&ev… *Registration Deadline:* January 20, 2025 This Second ROMEX workshop aims to finalize and consolidate the findings from various NWP centers and research entities, align the presentation of these results, and prepare recommendations for CGMS agencies. The workshop will focus on presentations and discussions in the following areas: - Reports on ROMEX related NWP impact studies and applications - Best ways to present ROMEX results to stakeholders and decision-makers - Status and plans of relevant RO missions - Other relevant developments and research pertaining to ROMEX The first two days of the meeting will feature presentations and discussions, while the final day will include a plenary session dedicated to consolidating ROMEX findings and finalizing the report and recommendations for CGMS. In-person participation is strongly encouraged, though remote access will be available. A detailed agenda will be provided after registration closes. *Note:* A full abstract is not required. Following the approach of the first ROMEX workshop, proposals will be accepted as long as the topics are relevant. Please plan your travel in advance, as the agenda will be finalized in early February.
